Database-Assisted Label Printing (Using a Barcode Scanner)

Overview

If a template and a database (for example, Microsoft Excel) are created using P-touch editor, you can connect the database and then arrange the database data in the template. Labels can be printed by scanning key barcodes that match the barcodes in the database.
Example: To manage part numbers using a database (Excel, etc.), and print the corresponding labels

Overview

Steps to Print Labels by Database-Assisted Label Printing

This example describes how to create a label data consisting of product barcode (1), product name (2), price (3), and $ (4).

Example of label data

Scanning the product barcode causes the relevant label to print.
Prepare the key barcode (product barcode) in advance.

Create data associated with a database

  1. 1. Create a database (list) with a tool such as Excel.
To create the label in the example above:
(1) Barcode data to print in the barcode area (product barcode) = key barcode
(2) Product name
(3) Price
(4) $: A fixed data not associated when the database is connected
(4)-1: Select the text area in the created label and right-click on it to open Properties.
(4)-2: Check Text Cannot Be Edited and Prevent Movement or Resizing With the Mouse or the Arrow Keys.
  1. 2. Start P-touch Editor.
  2. 3. Click File - Database - Connect. Then, specify the location of the source database and connect it.
  3. 4. Click File - Save as to save the data file with a name.

Transfer templates to the printer

  1. 1. Connect the printer to the PC with a USB cable.
  2. 2. In P-touch Editor, click File - Transfer Template to start Transfer Manager.
  3. 3. Select data from the list and right-click on it to display the menu.
  4. 4. Select Key Assign and select a key number. The number is a template number for printing.
  5. 5. Click Transfer to transfer the data associated with the database to the printer.

Read and print barcodes

  1. 1. Connect a barcode scanner to a USB host connector of the printer.
  2. 2. Scan the "template selection" barcode and select a template number.
  3. 3. Scan a barcode to print that is included in the database transferred with the template.
  4. 4. Scan the delimiter barcode and "HT (horizontal tab)" barcode.
  5. 5. Scan the print start command (^FF) barcode to start printing.
