Improve my Brother machine's copy quality

Listed below are instructions for various adjustments that can be made to improve your Brother machine's copy quality:


SECTION 1: COPY QUALITY SETTING


Your Brother machine offers a range of Copy Quality settings. Each setting is appropriate for copying a different type of document:

  • Auto: Use this setting for ordinary printouts. Auto is the default setting, and is suitable for documents that contain both text and photographs.
  • Text: This setting is suitable for copying text-only documents.
  • Photo: This setting is recommended for copying detailed images, such as photographs.
  • Graph: This setting is suitable for copying receipts.


Temporarily changing the Copy Quality setting:

To change the Copy Quality setting for your next copy job, follow these steps.

  1. Press Copy to illuminate it. (For DCP models, skip this step)

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Place the document you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first.

    • Place the document you want to copy face down on the flat scanner glass.

    • Use the numeric keys to enter the number of copies you want to make (up to 99).

    • Press Options.

    • Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Quality. Press OK.

    • Press the Left or Right arrow key to choose a setting. Press OK.

    • Press Start to start copying.


    Programming a new default Copy Quality setting:

    You can change your Brother machine's default Copy Quality setting by following these steps.

    1. Press Menu and choose Copy => Quality.

    2. Press the Left or Right arrow key to choose a setting. Press OK.

    3. Press Stop/Exit.


    SECTION 2: COPY BRIGHTNESS


    Temporarily changing the Copy Brightness setting:

    You can make your copied images darker or lighter by adjusting your Brother machine's Copy Brightness setting.

    To change the Copy Brightness setting for your next copy job, follow these steps.

    1. Press Copy to illuminate it. (For DCP models, skip this step)

    2. Do one of the following:

      • Place the document you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first.

      • Place the document you want to copy face down on the flat scanner glass.

    3. Use the numeric keys to enter the number of copies you want to make (up to 99).

    4. Press Options and press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Brightness. Press OK.

    5. Do one of the following:

      • Press the Left arrow key to make a darker copy.

      • Press the Right arrow key to make a lighter copy.

    6. Press OK.

    7. Press Start to start copying.


    Programming a new default Copy Brightness setting:


    You can change your Brother machine's default Copy Brightness setting by following these steps.

    1. Press Menu and choose Copy => Brightness.

    2. Do one of the following:

      • Press the Left arrow key to make a darker copy.

      • Press the Right arrow key to make a lighter copy.

    3. Press OK.

    4. Press Stop/Exit.


    SECTION 3: COPY CONTRAST


    Temporarily changing the Copy Contrast setting:

    You can make your copied images look sharper and more vivid by adjusting your Brother machine's Copy Contrast setting.

    To change the Copy Contrast setting for your next copy job, follow these steps.

    1. Press Copy to illuminate it. (For DCP models, skip this step)

    2. Do one of the following:

      • Place the document you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first.

      • Place the document you want to copy face down on the flat scanner glass.

    3. Use the numeric keys to enter the number of copies you want to make (up to 99).

    4. Press Options.

    5. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Contrast. Press OK.

    6. Do one of the following:

      • Press the Left arrow key to decrease the contrast.

      • Press the Right arrow key to increase the contrast.

    7. Press OK.

    8. Press Start to start copying.


    Programming a new default Copy Contrast setting:

    You can change your Brother machine's default Copy Contrast setting by following these steps.

    1. Press Menu and choose Copy => Contrast.

    2. Do one of the following:

      • Press the Left arrow key to decrease the contrast.

      • Press the Right arrow key to increase the contrast.

    3. Press OK.

    4. Press Stop/Exit.
