FAQs & Troubleshooting

Ink is still wet after printing on Glossy Paper and even after ink dries, smudge appears.

To resolve this issue ensure that the Media Type setting in the printer driver or the Paper Type setting in the machine's menu matches the type of paper you are using.

 

Even if you use non-Brother Glossy Paper and select Other Photo Paper or Other Glossy for the settings, still this issue may occur. In that case select Brother BP71 Photo Paper or Brother BP71 for your settings.

To confirm or change the current settings follow the procedures shown below:


A. For PC printing:

 

- For Windows users

  1. Open Printing Preferences. (Click here to see how to open Printing Preferences.)

  2. Open Basic tab.

  3. Choose Brother BP71 Photo Paper for the Media Type.



  4. Click OK.

- For Mac OS X users

  1. Open Print dialog. (Click here to see the details of how to open Print dialog.)

  2. Choose Print Settings in the Print dialog box.

  3. Click on the drop down menu next to Media Type.

  4. Choose Brother BP71 Photo Paper.

B. For Photo printing from a memory card or USB Flash memory drive:

 

These settings are temporary, and the machine returns to its default settings 3 minutes after printing, unless you have set the Mode Timer to 2 minutes or less.

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.
  1. Make sure you have put a memory card or USB Flash memory drive in the proper slot.
    Press Photo Capture .
  2. Press the up and down arrow key to choose View Photo(s). Press OK.
  3. Press the left and right arrow key to choose your photo.
  4. Enter the number of copies.
  5. Repeat step 3 and step 4 until you have chosen all the photos.
  6. After you have chosen all the photos, press OK.
  7. Press up or down arrow key to choose Paper Type.
  8. Press the left and right arrow key to choose Brother BP71.
  9. Press Color (Colour) Start to print.
<For Touchscreen models>
  1. Make sure you have put a memory card or USB Flash memory drive in the proper slot.
    Press Photo Capture  or Photo.
  2. Press View Photo(s). Do one of the following:
    - If you want to choose photos to print or print more than one for an image, go to step3.
    -If you want to print all photos, press (Print All Photos) .
    Press Yes to confirm. Go to step6.

  3. Press a photo from the thumbnail.
  4. Enter the number of copies you want either by pressing the number box directly and enter the number you want or pressing + or -. Press OK.
  5. Repeat step 3 and step 4 until you have chosen all the photos that you want to print.
  6. After you have chosen all the photos, press OK.
  7. Press Print Setting.
  8. Press up or down arrow key to display Paper Type. Press Paper Type.
  9. Press Brother BP71.
  10. Press Color (Colour) Start to print.


 

[NOTE] Proper paper handling after page has been printed:

  • After the photo has finished printing, remove the photo immediately from the machine and place on flat surface to dry for 24 hours. Do not allow additional printed documents lay on top of photo while in machines paper output tray.
  • Do not place anything on top of photo until after 24 hours. This can cause the picture not to dry properly.
  • Do not place photo in a photo album or a picture frame until after 24 hours. This can cause the picture not to dry properly.
