FAQs & Troubleshooting

"NEAR INK EMPTY (COLOR)" is appearing on the LCD. What does it mean and how do I clear it from the LCD?

"NEAR INK EMPTY (COLOR)" is a notification that a particular color(s) is running low. To clear a NEAR INK EMPTY message from the display, you need to replace the ink cartridge(s) that is near empty. However, if you do not want to replace the cartridge until it is empty, you can continue to use the machine with NEAR INK EMPTY on the LCD. You are not required to change the cartridge until "INK EMPTY" appears.

If you want to replace the near empty cartridge, click here for instructions on how to replace the ink cartridge(s).

Brother has developed a Firmware Update Tool that improves the efficiency of the cleaning cycles and alters the programmed time of the cleaning cycles from 11:00 pm to 11:00 am. Improving the efficiency of the cleaning cycles will extend the life of the ink cartridges when there is very little use of the machine or a particular color ink cartridge.
