FAQs & Troubleshooting

Change or delete an existing One Touch or Speed Dial number.

 

SECTION A: CHANGING OR DELETING ONE TOUCH NAMES OR NUMBERS

You can change or delete an existing One Touch number by following these steps:

 

  1. Press MENU and choose Fax => Address Book => One Touch Dial.
     
  2. Press the ONE TOUCH key with the number you want to change or delete.

     

    • To access One Touch numbers 21 through 40, hold down the SHIFT key and press the appropriate One Touch key.
       
    • Your Brother machine's LCD will display the name or number stored at that One Touch location with the message "1. Change 2. Exit."
  3. Press 1.
     
  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose the type of number you are storing. You can choose FAX/TEL, E-MAIL, or IFAX.
     
  5. Press the OK key.
     
  6. Do one of the following:

     

    • If you want to keep the current number or e-mail address, go to STEP 7.
       
    • If you chose FAX/TEL in STEP 4, use the dial pad to edit or enter a fax or telephone number.

      The number can be up to 20 digits long. You can use the REDIAL/PAUSE key to insert a 3.5-second (for UK: 2.8-second) pause in the stored number. You can enter multiple pauses by repeatedly pressing the REDIAL/PAUSE key.
       
    • If you chose E-MAIL or IFAX in STEP 4, use the dial pad to edit or enter an e-mail address. The e-mail address can be up to 60 characters long.
      • To erase a character, follow these steps:

         

        1. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor under the character you want to delete.
           
        2. Press the CLEAR/BACK key to delete the character. You can press the CLEAR/BACK key repeatedly to erase multiple characters.
      • To insert a character, follow these steps:

         

        1. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor where you want to insert a new character.
           
        2. Type the character you want to insert.
      • If you chose E-MAIL in STEP 4 and stored an e-mail address on the One Touch key, you can only use the e-mail address when the Brother machine is in Scan Mode.
         
      • If you chose IFAX in STEP 4 and stored an e-mail address on the One Touch key, you can only use the e-mail address when the Brother machine is in Fax Mode.
  7. Press the OK key.
     
  8. Do one of the following

     

    • If you want to keep the current name, go to STEP 9.
       
    • If you want to erase one character, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor under the character you want to delete.
         
      2. Press the CLEAR/BACK key to delete the character. You can press the CLEAR/BACK key repeatedly to erase multiple characters.
    • If you want to insert a character, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor where you want to insert a new character.
         
      2. Type the character you want to insert.
  9. Press the OK key.
     
  10. Do one of the following:

     

    • If you do not want to change the default fax/scan resolution, go to STEP 12.
       
    • If you chose FAX/TEL in STEP 4 and want to save a fax/scan resolution with the number, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose STD, FINE, S. FINE, or PHOTO.
         
      2. Press the OK key.
         
      3. Go to STEP 13.
    • If you chose E-MAIL in STEP 4 and want to save a fax/scan resolution with the e-mail address, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose COLOR100DPI, COLOR200DPI, COLOR300DPI, COLOR600DPI, GRAY100DPI, GRAY200DPI, GRAY300DPI, B&W200DPI, or B&W200x100.
         
      2. Press the OK key.
         
      3. Go to STEP 11.
    • If you chose IFAX in STEP 4 and want to save a fax/scan resolution with the number, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose STD, FINE, or PHOTO.
         
      2. Press the OK key.
         
      3. Go to STEP 13.
  11. Do one of the following:

     

    • If you chose a Black & White resolution setting in STEP 10, press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose the file format that will be used to send to your PC. You can choose TIFF, PDF, or SECURE PDF.
       
    • If you chose a Grayscale or Color resolution setting in STEP 10, press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose the file format that will be used to send to your PC. You can choose PDF, SECURE PDF, JPEG, or XPS.
  12. Press the OK key.
     
  13. Do one of the following:

     

    • To change or delete another One Touch number, repeat STEPS 2 through 12.
       
    • To finish changing or deleting one touch names or numbers, press the STOP/EXIT key.

 

SECTION B: CHANGING OR DELETING SPEED DIAL NAMES OR NUMBERS

You can change or delete an existing Speed Dial number by following these steps:

 

  1. Press MENU and choose Fax => Address Book => Speed Dial.
     
  2. Enter the three-digit Speed Dial location with the number you want to change or delete.
     
  3. Press the OK key. Your Brother machine's LCD will display the name or number stored at that Speed Dial location with the message "1. Change 2. Exit.

     

  4. Press 1.
     
  5. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose the type of number you are storing. You can choose FAX/TEL, E-MAIL, or IFAX.
     
  6. Press the OK key.
     
  7. Do one of the following:

     

    • If you want to keep the current number or e-mail address, go to STEP 8.
       
    • If you chose FAX/TEL in STEP 5, use the dial pad to edit or enter a fax or telephone number.

      • If you chose IFAX in STEP 5 and stored an e-mail address on the Speed Dial location, you can only use the e-mail address when the Brother machine is in Fax Mode.
  8. Press the OK key.
     
  9. Do one of the following

     

    • If you want to keep the current name, go to STEP 10.
       
    • If you want to erase one character, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor under the character you want to delete.
         
      2. Press the CLEAR/BACK key to delete the character. You can press the CLEAR/BACK key repeatedly to erase multiple characters.
    • If you want to insert a character, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor where you want to insert a new character.
         
      2. Type the character you want to insert.
  10. Press the OK key.
     
  11. Do one of the following:

     

    • If you do not want to change the default fax/scan resolution, go to STEP 13.
       
    • If you chose FAX/TEL in STEP 5 and want to save a fax/scan resolution with the number, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose STD, FINE, S. FINE, or PHOTO.
         
      2. Press the OK key.
         
      3. Go to STEP 14.
    • If you chose E-MAIL in STEP 5 and want to save a fax/scan resolution with the e-mail address, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose COLOR100DPI, COLOR200DPI, COLOR300DPI, COLOR600DPI, GRAY100DPI, GRAY200DPI, GRAY300DPI, B&W200DPI, or B&W200x100.
         
      2. Press the OK key.
         
      3. Go to STEP 12.
    • If you chose IFAX in STEP 5 and want to save a fax/scan resolution with the number, follow these steps:

       

      1. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose STD, FINE, or PHOTO.
         
      2. Press the OK key.
         
      3. Go to STEP 14.
  12. Do one of the following:

     

    • If you chose a Black & White resolution setting in STEP 11, press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose the file format that will be used to send to your PC. You can choose TIFF, PDF, or SECURE PDF.
       
    • If you chose a Grayscale or Color resolution setting in STEP 11, press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose the file format that will be used to send to your PC. You can choose PDF, SECURE PDF, JPEG, or XPS.
  13. Press the OK key.
     
  14. Do one of the following:

     

    • To change, delete, or store another Speed Dial number, repeat STEPS 2 through 13.
       
    • To finish changing or deleting speed dial names or numbers, press the STOP/EXIT key.
