Memory Security lets you prevent unauthorized access to your Brother machine.

While Memory Security is on, the following operations are available:
 

• Receiving faxes into memory (limited by the Brother machine's memory capacity)
   
• Fax Forwarding (if Fax Forwarding was already on)
   
• Remote Retrieval (if Fax Storage was already on)

When Memory Security is on, the following operations are not available:
 

• Printing received faxes
   
• Sending faxes
   
• Receiving telephone calls using the machine's handset *if applicable
   
• Making telephone calls using the machine's handset *if applicable
   
• Copying
   
• Operation from control panel
   
• PC printing *if applicable
   
• PC scanning *if applicable
   
• PC Fax Receiving *if applicable

Setting up the password

Before you can turn Memory Security on, you must set a password.

To program the Memory Security password, follow these steps:

1. Press Menu.
    
2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose General Setup and press OK.
    
3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Security and press OK.
    
4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Mem Security and press OK.
    
5. Enter a four-digit number for the password using numbers 0-9 and press OK.
    
6. Re-enter the password when the LCD shows "Verify:" and press OK.
    
7. Press Stop/Exit.

Turning Memory Security on

Once you have programmed a password, follow these steps to turn Memory Security on:

1. Press Menu.
    
2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose General Setup and press OK.
    
3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Security and press OK.
    
4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Mem Security and press OK.
    
5. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Set Security and press OK.
    
6. Enter the registered four-digit password and press OK.
   
   The machine goes offline and the LCD shows "Secure Mode".

Turning Memory Security off

To turn Memory Security off, follow these steps:

1. Press Menu.
    
2. Enter the registered four-digit password and press OK.
   
   Memory Security is automatically turned off and the LCD shows the date and time.

Changing the password

To change your Memory Security password, follow these steps:

1. Press Menu.
    
2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose General Setup and press OK.
    
3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Security and press OK.
    
4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Mem Security and press OK.
    
5. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Set Password and press OK.
    
6. Enter the registered four-digit password, press OK.
    
7. Enter a four-digit number for the new password and press OK.
    
8. If the LCD shows "Verify:", re-enter the new password and press OK.
    
9. Press Stop/Exit.
