Print Problem - Troubleshooting

General

• The printer status is Offline or Paused. (For Macintosh)
• The printer status is Offline or Paused. (For Windows®)
• My machine only prints one copy of my document even though I have asked it to print two or more. (For Windows® 2000/XP and Windows Vista®)
• I want to change the printer driver settings, but the OK button of the printing preferences dialog box is out of the PC screen and I cannot click on it.
• When I print or copy a document with fast mode, the printing is shifted too high on the paper.
• The print speed is very slow when I use XML Paper Specification Printer Driver.
• When I print using the XML Paper Specification Printer Driver, the print out result is not what I exepected, it is very different from the original draft or preview or I cannot print at all.
• Why do the color ink cartridges run out of ink even though I never or rarely print in color?

Settings

• The Brother machine does not appear in the "Print & Fax" or "Print & Scan" Utility. (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)
• The Brother machine does not appear in the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility. (Mac OS X 10.2 - 10.4)

Cannot Print

• I cannot make borderless prints.
• I installed drivers from the bundled CD-ROM but I cannot print. (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)
• I cannot print from my computer via USB.
• The error message "Invalid format for short nick name" appears when printing a document. (Mac OS® X 10.5 or greater)
• Cannot print from my PC using Windows Vista® or Windows® XP SP3 when connected by USB. No error messages appear on the machine, but I still cannot print from my PC.
• I get an error "Print Queue is stopped". (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)
• I get an error "Print Queue is stopped". (Mac OS X 10.2 - 10.4)
• I am sharing my Brother machine from my Windows® XP computer and other Windows® users are not able to print.
• Images of the thumbnail page from the media (memory) card won't print.

Print Quality Problem

• When printing documents the characters appear ghosted, blurry, or doubled.
• The edge of glossy paper is smudged.
• When I print photos on Brother Photo Paper (BP71 Series), black areas on the printed photos look greenish–black or the colors do not match the colors in the original photo. What should I do?
• When I print photos, the color quality is not good.
• Ink is still wet after printing on Glossy Paper and even after ink dries, smudge appears.
• One or more of my colors are not printing (blank). What can I do?

Printing from an application

• When I print from Microsoft Excel 2002/2003, Word 2002/2003 or PowerPoint 2002/2003, semitransparent graphics are printed incorrectly.
• Some characters are missing when printing PDF files from Adobe® Acrobat® / Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® / Adobe® Reader®. What can I do to correct this?
• When I try to print thin color borders in Microsoft® Excel, the borders are printed in black.
• When I print from Outlook/ Outlook Express or Internet Explorer, the page does not print as expected. For example, the right or left hand portion of the page is blank or it prints on a separate piece of paper.
