For wireless network users:

We strongly recommend that you update the firmware using a wired LAN or USB connection. Updating the firmware using a wireless LAN connection may fail if the connection becomes unstable.
 

Notes when updating the firmware:

Please make sure that the machine you are going to update the firmware is not busy. Also, make sure that there is no data left in the machine memory when running the firmware update tool.

The following data will be deleted when you update the firmware.

• Reprint data stored in the memory
• Secured print data stored in the memory (For HL-5280DW/ 5380DW only)
• Secured reprint data stored in the memory (For HL-5280DW/ 5380DW only)

Please check the following before updating the firmware.

Please check the following on your computer.

• Open Printer Properties and confirm that your printer is functioning correctly by printing a test page.
• Please close all applications and TSR's.
• If you are using a Windows XP SP2 Firewall or other Firewall software, disable it.

It is not possible to update the firmware if the following conditions are met on your machine.

• The machine is receiving or processing the data. (Make sure the Data LED is off or not blinking)
• The machine is printing a document.
• The machine is in the Settings Menu. (For LCD models only)
• There's error message on LCD panel. (For LCD models only)

Please do not do the followings until firmware update finishes.

• Turn off the machine.
• Turn off the PC.
• "Disconnect the interface cable. But Do not disconnect interface cable from PC."
• Close the firmware update tool window.
   

Please do not turn off the machine until firmware update finishes.

 How to download and update the firmware

If you see the following error message "Program failed to run",click here to learn how to solve the problem.

Notes:

• You must be logged on as an Administrator.
• If the "User Account Control" prompt is displayed, click "Continue"/ "Yes”.
  Note: The button may differ depending on the operating system being used. 
   

[When the machine is connected to the PC via USB]

1. Please make a temporary directory on your HDD to save the downloaded file. e.g. C:\bront
2. Start downloading.
3. Once downloading is completed, make sure that the machine is connected to the PC with a USB cable.
4. Double click the downloaded file. 
5. Please follow the instructions on the screen.
   
   Note (For Windows® 8 users):

   Note (For Windows® 7/ 8 users):
   If you are having problems with the firmware update procedure, please click here for troubleshooting steps.
    
6. The update will start.
7. When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.

 [When the machine is connected to the network]

7. If you have other machines connected to the network, you can update the firmware on these machines by clicking 'Continue' and selecting the model you would like to update the firmware.
