Print Problem - Troubleshooting

General

• The printer status is Offline or Paused. (For Macintosh)
• The printer status is Offline or Paused. (For Windows®)
• Recently, when I print a document from the manual feed slot, my Brother machine is taking more time than usual to start feeding paper. How can I reduce the time it takes to start feeding paper?
• I'm using Windows Vista®. There are two printer icons with a same product name in the "Printers" section. Why? Which should I use?

Settings

• The Brother machine does not appear in the "Print & Fax" or "Print & Scan" Utility. (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)
• The Brother machine does not appear in the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility. (Mac OS X 10.2 - 10.4)

Cannot Print

• I installed drivers from the bundled CD-ROM but I cannot print. (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)
• I cannot print from my computer via USB.
• The error message "Invalid format for short nick name" appears when printing a document. (Mac OS® X 10.5 or greater)
• Cannot print from my PC using Windows Vista® or Windows® XP SP3 when connected by USB. No error messages appear on the machine, but I still cannot print from my PC.
• I'm using Windows® XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003. An error message referring to BRSVC01A.EXE appears after installing the printer driver and I cannot print. What should I do?

Print Quality Problem

• I am using Windows®/ Mac OS® 8.x-9.x. When I print from Adobe® Illustrator® with PCL printer driver, text and images are jagged.
• How do I clean white or black spots on printed documents?
• How can I improve poor print quality ?
• When I print from PowerPoint using the 2 in 1 feature, some of the borders around the document are not printed or lines are printed that shouldn't be there.
• When using Microsoft® Word 2002, borders that use wavy lines, dots or dashes are printed as solid lines. What can I do?

Printing from an application

• The printout is out of alignment or the size of the printed document is reduced when printing the document from Microsoft Word 2010.
• I'm using Windows Vista®. I printed an Excel 2007 graph, but the print result is not correct, a part of the graph is not printed.
• Some characters are missing when printing PDF files from Adobe® Acrobat® / Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® / Adobe® Reader®. What can I do to correct this?
• When I print from Adobe® Illustrator® with the "Improve Gray Printing" option enabled, the document with halftone setting does not print as expected. What can I do?
• I am using Windows® 2000 /XP. When I print from Adobe® Reader® 7.0, strange characters are printed on the page. What can I do?
