Print Problem - Troubleshooting

General

• The printer status is Offline or Paused. (For Macintosh)
• The printer status is Offline or Paused. (For Windows®)
• My machine only prints one copy of my document even though I have asked it to print two or more. (For Windows® 2000/XP and Windows Vista®)
• I'm using Windows® and the print speed is too slow. What can I do?
• Why do the color ink cartridges run out of ink even though I never or rarely print in color?

Settings

• I'm using Mac OS® X 10.4. I cannot open the Print Dialogue. What do I do?
• The Brother machine does not appear in the "Print & Fax" or "Print & Scan" Utility. (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)
• The Brother machine does not appear in the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility. (Mac OS X 10.2 - 10.4)

Cannot Print

• I cannot make borderless prints.
• I installed drivers from the bundled CD-ROM but I cannot print. (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)
• I cannot print from my computer via USB.
• The error message "Invalid format for short nick name" appears when printing a document. (Mac OS® X 10.5 or greater)
• Cannot print from my PC using Windows Vista® or Windows® XP SP3 when connected by USB. No error messages appear on the machine, but I still cannot print from my PC.
• I'm using Mac OS® X 10.5 or greater and I'm getting error messages when I try to print.
• I'm using Mac OS® X 10.2 - 10.4 and I'm getting error messages when I try to print.
• I get an error "Print Queue is stopped". (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)

• I'm experiencing a problem when printing from Adobe® Acrobat®/ Acrobat® Reader™/ Reader®. What can I do to correct this?

Print Quality Problem

• The edge of glossy paper is smudged.
• The ink bleeds and the letters look fuzzy on my printed documents. What can I do?
• When printing from my Apple Mac OS® X, the print is coming out mirrored.
• When I print, the pages are smudged with ink.  What should I do?
• Improve poor print quality.
• When I print from PowerPoint using the 2 in 1 feature, some of the borders around the document are not printed or lines are printed that shouldn't be there.

Printing from an application

• When I print from Microsoft Excel 2002/2003, Word 2002/2003 or PowerPoint 2002/2003, semitransparent graphics are printed incorrectly.
• Some characters are missing when printing PDF files from Adobe® Acrobat® / Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® / Adobe® Reader®. What can I do to correct this?
• When I try to print thin color borders in Microsoft® Excel, the borders are printed in black.
• When I print from Outlook/ Outlook Express or Internet Explorer, the page does not print as expected. For example, the right or left hand portion of the page is blank or it prints on a separate piece of paper.
