Before downloading the tool:
 

This program requires Sun JavaVM (Virtual Machine). If it is not installed on your computer, you cannot run this program. The version of Sun JavaVM (Virtual Machine) you require is 1.4.2 or later.

If Sun JavaVM (Virtual Machine) is not installed on your computer or your Sun JavaVM version is older than 1.4.2, please download and install the latest version of the Java application from the Apple web-site.

Notes when installing:

Please make sure that the machine you are going to install the feature to is not busy. Also, make sure that there is no data left in the machine memory when running the install tool.

The following data will be deleted when you install the feature.

• Outgoing message (if applicable)
• Journal report data
• Caller ID log 

Please check the following before installing.

It is not possible to install the feature unless the following conditions are met on you machine.

• FAX receive data exists in the memory of the machine. For instructions on how to check your memory is clear, please refer to the 'User's Guide'.
• FAX send data exists in the memory of the machine (timer sending job or retry job).
• There's ICM (Incoming Message) voice data. For instructions on how to clear ICM, please refer to the 'User's Guide'.
• The machine is calling or dialing FAX.
• The machine is scanning a document.
• The machine is copying / or in copy settings (copy mode, number of copies, etc..).
• There are Media cards inserted into the machine.
• The machine is in the Settings Menu.
• The telephone line is busy. (Disconnect your telephone line to prevent any incoming calls.)
• There's error message on LCD panel.

Please do not turn the machine off until the installation is completed.

How to download and install

[When the machine is connected to the Macintosh via USB]

1. Once downloading is completed, double click the downloaded file to install the application.
   Make sure that the machine is connected to the Macintosh with a USB cable.
2. Double click the "FirmwareUpdater.jar" in the mounted installer disk.
3. Please follow the instructions on the screen.
4. The update will start.
5. When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.

[When the machine is connected to the network]

1. Once downloading is completed, double click the downloaded file to install the application.
2. Double click the "FirmwareUpdater.jar" in the mounted installer disk.
3. Please follow the instructions on the screen.
   Note:
   * If the "Failed to connect to the Brother Internet Server. Make sure your PC is connected to Internet." message appears, please check the following:
     i. The network cable is connected to your Macintosh.
     ii. Your Macintosh is connected to network.
     iii. Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarliy disabled.
   * If the "Cannot find a machine to update." message appears, pelase check the following:
     i. The machine is turned on.
     ii. The network cable is connected to the machine.
     iii.The IP address of the machine is correctly set.
     iv. Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarliy disabled. 
4. The update will start.
5. When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.
   If you have other machines connected to the network, you can continue installing the feature on these machines by clicking 'Continue' and selecting the model you would like to install the feature to.
