Print Problem - Troubleshooting

General

• The printer status is Offline or Paused. (For Macintosh)
• The printer status is Offline or Paused. (For Windows®)
• My machine only prints one copy of my document even though I have asked it to print two or more. (For Windows® 2000/XP and Windows Vista®)
• I'm using Windows Vista™. There are two printer icons with the same product name in the "Printers" section.
• My print speed is too slow.
• Why do the colour ink cartridges run out of ink even though I never or rarely print in colour?

Settings

• I cannot open the Printer Driver Dialogue box using Mac OS® X 10.4.
• The Brother machine does not appear in the "Print & Fax" or "Print & Scan" Utility. (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)
• Im using Mac OS® X 10.2-10.4  and the Brother machine does not appear in the Print Center or Setup Utility.

Cannot Print

• I installed drivers from the bundled CD-ROM but I cannot print (Mac OS X 10.5 or greater)
• I cannot print from my computer via USB
• The error message "Invalid format for short nick name" appears when printing a document. (Mac OS® X 10.5 or greater)
• Cannot print from my PC using Windows Vista® or Windows® XP SP3 when connected by USB. No error messages appear on the machine, but I still cannot print from my PC.
• I'm using Windows Vista®. An error message referring to BRSVC01A.EXE appears after installing the printer.
• An error message referring to BRSVC01A.EXE appears after installing the printer driver on Windows® XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003.
• I am having issues printing with the Presto!® PageManager® software.
• I'm using the Simple Network Configuration capabilities of Apple® Mac OS® X. I can print from a Macintosh®, but not from a Windows® PC.

Print Quality Problem

• The edge of glossy paper is smudged.
• When printing from my Apple Mac OS® 10.x the print is coming out like a mirror image
• I am using Windows®/ Mac OS® 8.x-9.x. When I print from Adobe® Illustrator® with PCL printer driver, text and images are jagged.
• One or more of my colours are not printing (blank).
• When I print the pages are smudged with ink.
• The white horizontal lines appears on the printed image from the PaperPort® software
• How can I improve poor print quality?
• When I print from PowerPoint using the 2 in 1 feature, some of the borders around the document are not printed or lines are printed that shouldn't be there.
• Using Microsoft® Word 2002, borders that use wavy lines, dots or dashes are printed as solid lines.
• When printing a "Power Point" document with "Page Layout: 2 in 1" and the quality is set to Super Fine or Fine part of the image is black.
• There is a lot of banding on the image. What can I do?

Printing from an application

• The printout is out of alignment or the size of the printed document is reduced when printing the document from Microsoft Word 2010.
• When I print from Microsoft Excel 2002/2003, Word 2002/2003 or PowerPoint 2002/2003, semitransparent graphics are printed incorrectly.
• In Excel 2007 using Windows Vista™. I tried to print a graph but part of the graph is missing.
• Printouts of PDF files lose characters when printing from Adobe® Acrobat® / Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® / Adobe® Reader®.
• When I try to print thin colour borders in Microsoft Excel, the borders are printed in black.
• When printing from Microsoft Word using Windows® 2000 or XP the document does not print on the paper size that I selected in the printer driver.
• When I print from Outlook/Outlook Express or Internet Explorer, the page doesn't print as I expect it to. For example, the right or left hand portion of the page is blank or it prints on a separate piece of paper.
