CUPS Printer Driver (Recommended)

This driver is a cupsFilter driver.
The Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) is a cross-platform Open Source printing solution for Unix environments. For more information on Mac OS® X CUPS support visit: www.apple.com
With this driver, you can print from native Mac OS® X and UNIX based applications running in the Mac OS® X environment.
This driver supports the PC-FAX send feature. (if applicable)

How to Download and Install

For USB Users:

  1. Switch off and unplug the product from the AC outlet and disconnect it from your Macintosh if you already connected an interface cable.
  2. Turn on your Macintosh.
  3. Connect the USB interface cable to your Macintosh, and then connect it to the product.
    Note:
    Do not connect the product to a USB port on a keyboard or a non powered USB hub.
  4. Open the "Printer Setup Utility".  The "Printer Setup Utility" can be found in /Applications/Utilities.
  5. Click Add Printer...
  6. Mac OS® X 10.4 users:
    1. Select "Default Browser".
    2. Select your machine.
    3. Select  "Brother" from the "Print Using" list.
    4. Select your printer model's CUPS driver from "Model" list.
      The name of CUPS driver is "model name + CUPS v1.1".
    5. Click Add. The printer will be available from the "Printer List".
    6. Select Quit from the menu.
    7. The setup is now complete.

    Mac OS® X 10.3 users:
    1. Select "USB".
    2. Select your machine.
    3. Select  "Brother" from the "Printer Model" list.
    4. Select your printer model's CUPS driver from "Model Name" list.
      The name of CUPS driver is "model name + CUPS.gz".
    5. Click Add. The printer will be available from the "Printer List".
    6. Select Quit from the menu.
    7. The setup is now complete.

For Network Users:

  1. Switch off and unplug the product from the AC outlet and disconnect it from your Macintosh if you already connected an interface cable.
  2. Turn on your Macintosh.
  3. Connect the network interface cable to the product, and then connect it to a free port on your hub.
  4. Turn on the product by plugging in the power cord. Turn the power switch on.
  5. Open the "Printer Setup Utility".  The "Printer Setup Utility" can be found in /Applications/Utilities.
  6. Click Add Printer...
  7. Mac OS® X 10.4 users:
    1. Select "Default Browser".
    2. Select your machine. 
    3. Select  "Brother" from the "Print Using" list.
    4. Select your printer model's CUPS driver from "Model" list.
      The name of CUPS driver is "model name + CUPS v1.1".
    5. Click Add. The printer will be available from the "Printer List".
    6. Select Quit from the menu.
    7. The setup is now complete.

    Mac OS® X 10.3 users:
    1. Select "Rendezvous".
    2. Select your machine. 
    3. Select  "Brother" from the "Print Using" list.
    4. Select your printer model's CUPS driver from "Model" list.
      The name of CUPS driver is "model name + CUPS v1.1".
    5. Click Add. The printer will be available from the "Printer List".
    6. Select Quit  from the menu.
    7. The setup is now complete.
