Before downloading the tool:
This program requires Java Runtime (Environment). If it is not installed on your computer, you cannot run this program. The version of Java Runtime (Environment) you require is 1.4.2 or later.

If Java Runtime (Environment) is not installed on your computer or your Java Runtime (Environment) version is older than 1.4.2, please download and install the latest version of the Java application from the Apple web-site.
 

For wireless network users:
We strongly recommend that you update the firmware using a wired LAN connection. Updating the firmware using a wireless LAN connection may fail if the connection becomes unstable.
 

Notes when updating the firmware:
Please make sure that the machine you are going to update the firmware is not busy. Also, make sure that there is no data left in the machine memory when running the firmware update tool.

For DCP-8065DN only: The following data will be deleted when you update the firmware.

• Network configuration
  (Before updating Firmware, please print a configuration page. After updating the firmware, please reconfigure the network settings.)

Please check the following before updating the firmware.

It is not possible to update the firmware if the following conditions are met on your machine.

• The machine is scanning a document.
• The machine is copying / or in copy settings (copy mode, number of copies, etc..).
• The machine is in the Settings Menu.
• There's error message on LCD panel.

Please do not turn off the machine until firmware update finishes.
 

How to download and update the firmware

[When the machine is connected to the Macintosh via USB]

1. Once downloading is completed, double click the downloaded file to install the application.
   Make sure that the machine is connected to the Macintosh with a USB cable.
2. Double click the "FirmwareUpdater.jar" in the mounted installer disk.
3. Please follow the instructions on the screen.
4. The update will start.
   The machine will beep to let you know that the firmware is being updated.
5. When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.

[When the machine is connected to the network]

1. Once downloading is completed, double click the downloaded file to install the application.
2. Double click the "FirmwareUpdater.jar" in the mounted installer disk.
3. Please follow the instructions on the screen.
   Note:
   * If the "Failed to connect to the Brother Internet Server. Make sure your PC is connected to Internet." message appears, please check the following:
   
   1. The network cable is connected to your Macintosh.
   2. Your Macintosh is connected to network.
   3. Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarliy disabled.
   * If the "Cannot find a machine to update." message appears, pelase check the following:
   1. The machine is turned on.
   2. The network cable is connected to the machine.
   3. The IP address of the machine is correctly set.
   4. Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarliy disabled.
4. The update will start.
   The machine will beep to let you know that the firmware is being updated.
5. When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.
   If you have other machines connected to the network, you can update the firmware on these machines by clicking 'Continue' and selecting the model you would like to update the firmware.
