Configure the Brother machine for a wireless network using the Setup Wizard from the control panel.

Description:

STEP I: Before configuring the wireless settings:

You must know your wireless network settings of the WLAN access point/router. Check and record the current wireless network settings below.

  • Network Name (SSID: Service Set ID, ESSID: Extended Service Set (ID).
  • Network Key (Password, Security Key or Encryption Key, etc.)

Hint

How to find the Network Name (SSID, ESSID) and Network Key?

  1. See the side of your WLAN access point/router.

  2. See the documentation provided with your WLAN access point/router.
  3. The initial Network Name could be the manufacturer's name or the model name.

If you don't know your wireless settings of your WLAN access point/router, click here to see the details of how to find SSID and Network Key.

STEP II: Configure the wireless settings:

Please follow the steps below.

  1. Connect the AC power cord to your Brother machine and then connect it to an AC power outlet (electrical socket). Turn on your Brother machine.

  2. If you have previously configured the wireless settings of the machine, you must reset the network LAN settings before you can configure the wireless settings, again. Press Menu and choose Network => Factory Reset. Press Yes to accept the change. Then hold down Yes for 2 seconds to confirm. The machine will restart automatically. When the LCD returns to the date and time, wait about a minute for the LAN menu to become active, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Press Menu on the screen.

  4. Choose Network => WLAN => Setup Wizard.

  5. If the message, Switch Network interface to wireless? appears, press Yes to accept. The wired network interface will become inactive with this setting.

  6. The machine will search for your network and display a list of available SSIDs. You should see the SSID your recorded earlier.

If the machine finds more than one network, press the Up or Down arrow to display your network, then press the SSID you want to connect with.
    Go to Step 10.

If your access point is set to not broadcast the SSID, you will have to manually add the SSID name. Go to Step 7.

Hint

- It will take several seconds to display a list of available SSIDs.

- If a list of SSIDs is not displayed, make sure your access point is on. Move your machine closer to the access point and try starting from Step 3 again.

  1. Press the Up or Down arrow to display <New SSID>, then press <New SSID>.

  2. Enter the SSID you recorded earlier and press OK.

  3. Press Infrastructure.

  4. Choose one of the options below: If your network is configured for Authentication and Encryption, you must match the settings used for your network.

    No Authentication or Encryption:

Press Open System, press None for Encryption Type. Then press Yes to apply your settings. Go to Step 13.

    No Authentication with WEP Encryption:

Press Open System, press WEP for the Encryption Type. Go to Step 11.

    Authentication with WEP Encryption:

Press Shared Key. Go to Step 11.

Authentication with WPA/WPA2-PSK (TKIP or AES) Encryption:

Press WPA/WPA2-PSK. Go to Step 12.

  5. Choose the appropriate key number. Enter the WEP key you recorded earlier and press OK. Then press Yes to apply your settings. Go to Step 13.

  6. Press TKIP or AES for Encryption Type. Enter the WPA/WPA2-PSK password you recorded earlier and press OK. Then press Yes to apply your settings. Go to Step 13.

  7. Your machine will now try to connect to your wireless network using the information you have entered.

If successful, Connected will appear briefly on the LCD.

If the LCD displays Connection Failed, make sure your access point is on, and verify your Network Settings collected in STEP I. Temporarily move your machine as close as possible to the access point or router. Try connecting from Step 3 again.

  8. The machine will automatically acquire the correct TCP/IP address information from your access point/router if DHCP is enabled (DHCP is normally enabled as default for most access point routers).

Once the Brother machine is joined to the network and has a valid IP address, the wireless setup is complete.
