Title:

I receive an error message when trying to use network functions.(For Windows®)

Description:

You may see an error message or cannot locate your Brother machine on a network. (the error message varies by your Brother machine or operating system.)



Please follow the steps below to solve the problem:


  1. Verify that the LAN cable and the power cord of the Brother machine are connected. If the power cord is connected to a surge protector or power switch, remove the cord from the device and connect it directly to the outlet.

  2. Check the Firewall setting on your computer.

    If a Firewall on your computer is active, it may be rejecting the necessary network connection. Disable the Firewall on your computer and try re-installing the drivers.

  1. Now retry using the network functions. If you can now use them, the Firewall on your computer is rejecting the necessary network connection. In this case, Brother recommends you either disable the Firewall on your computer whenever you use network functions or leave the Firewall enabled and adjust the appropriate settings.

    Or, set a static IP address for your Brother machine following the instructions below. This is another way to solve the problem while leaving the Firewall enabled.

For Windows® 95/98/98SE/Me/NT Users:

  1. Click start => Setting and select Printers.
  2. Right click on the printer icon for your machine and select Properties.
  3. Click Details tab and click on PORT SETTINGS.

  1. Make sure the box next  Resolve IP Address by Node Name is NOT selected. If it is selected, click the box to unselect it and enter the IP Address in the IP Address section.

  1. Click on OK.
For Windows® 2000/XP Users:
  1. Click on Start => Settings and select Control Panel.
  2. Locate Printers or Printers and Faxes, and double click on it.
  3. Right click on the printer icon for your machine and select Properties.
  4. Click Ports tab and click on  CONFIGURE PORT.




  5. Enter the static IP address for your machine in the Printer name or IP Address section and click on OK.

 


 

For Windows Vista® Users:

  1. Click start  => Control Panel => Hardware and Sound and select Printers.
  2. Right click on the printer icon for your machine and select Run as administrator => Properties.

    NOTE:
    When the User Account Control screen appears, do the following.
    • For users who have administrator rights: Click Continue.
    • For users who do not have administrator rights: Enter the administrator password and click OK.

  3. Click Ports tab and click on CONFIGURE PORT.



  4. Enter the static IP address for your machine in the Printer name or IP Address section and click on OK.




 

For Windows® 7 or later Users:

  1. Open Printer Properties. (Click here to see how to open Printer Properties.)

  2. Click Ports tab and click on CONFIGURE PORT.

    NOTE:
    If the Configure Port... button is not clickable, click the General tab and then click the Change Properties button at the bottom left of the dialog box. When the User Account Control screen appears, type an administrator username and password and click Yes.

  3. Enter the static IP address for your machine in the Printer name or IP Address section and click on OK.

Note

If you are connected to a DHCP server, you cannot set the same IP address to allocate to other devices on the network. For instructions on how to configure it properly, please contact your network administrator.

Retry using the network functions. If the problem still continues, there may be another cause, please refer to "FAQs & Troubleshooting" for other information.
