Replace the toner cartridge.

Follow the procedure below to replace toner cartridges.

The Brother machine has separate consumables the toner cartridge and the drum unit. Verify you replace only the Toner Cartridge and not the drum unit. If you want to know their difference, refer to "What is the difference between the toner cartridge and the drum unit?"

Caution

Do NOT use flammable substances or any type of spray to clean the inside or outside of the machine. Doing this may cause a fire or electrical shock.

Caution

Just after you have used the machine, some internal parts of the machine are extremely HOT! When you open the top cover of the machine, never touch the shaded parts as shown in the diagram below:

Open the top cover.
Make sure the top cover is completely open. To remove the drum unit, hold each side of the drum by its handles and gently lift the drum forward toward you. Place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposable paper to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.

Gently turn the lever on the toner cartridge forward unit it stops. The toner cartridge cannot be removed unless the shutter is closed, by turning the lever completery to the front.

Romove the used toner cartridge from the drum unit by gently pulling it out.

Note

Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wipe it off or wash it with cold water.

Unpack the new toner cartridge. Place the used toner cartridge into the aluminum bag and discard it according to local regulations.

Caution

Wait to unpack the toner cartridge until immediately before you install it into the machine. If a toner cartridge is left unpacked for a long period of time, the toner life is shortened.
You can use only a genuine Brother toner cartridge, which is specially formulated to ensure top print quality. Using another brand of toner cartridge may void your machine's warranty.

Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times and then remove the protective sael.

Slide the new toner cartridge into the opning on the right side of the drum unit. To ensure that the toner cartridge and the drum unit fit together correctly, make sure that the toner cartridge guide arrow is exactly aligned with the guide arrow on the drum unit.
