Title:
Set the Brother machine to prevent public access to certain features.

Description:

Memory Security lets you prevent unauthorized access to your Brother machine.


When Memory Security is on, the following operations are available:

  • Receiving faxes

  • Fax Forwarding (if Fax Forwarding was already on)

  • Paging (if Paging was already on)

  • Remote Retrieval (if Fax Storage was already on)


When Memory Security is on, the following operations are not available:

  • Printing received faxes

  • Sending faxes

  • Copying

  • PC printing *if applicable

  • PC scanning *if applicable

  • Receiving telephone calls (If your Brother machine has a handset)

  • Making telephone calls (If your Brother machine has a handset)

Note

  • You must turn PC Fax Receiving off before you can turn Memory Security on.

  • When Memory Security is on, you will not to be able to schedule new Delayed Faxes or Polling jobs; however, any pre-scheduled Delayed Faxes will still be sent so you won't lose them.

  • If you want to print the faxes in memory, turn Memory Security off.




SETTING UP THE PASSWORD

Before you can turn Memory Security on, you must set a password.


Note



To program the Memory Security password, follow these steps:

  1. Press MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 8 (Security), 1 (Mem Security).

  2. Enter a four-digit, numerical password.

  3. Press the MENU/SET key.

    • If you are entering the password for the first time, the Brother machine's LCD will read "Verify".


  4. Re-enter the password.

  5. Press the MENU/SET key.

  6. Press the STOP/EXIT key.



TURNING MEMORY SECURITY ON

Once you have programmed a password, follow these steps to turn Memory Security on:

  1. Press MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 8 (Security), 1 (Mem Security).

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Set Security.

  3. Press the MENU/SET key.

  4. Enter the four-digit password.

  5. Press the MENU/SET key.

    Your Brother machine will go offline. Its LCD will read "Secure Mode".

    Note

    If there is a power failure, the data in your Brother machine's memory will remain for up to 4 days.





TURNING MEMORY SECURITY OFF

To turn Memory Security off, follow these steps:

  1. Press the MENU/SET key.

  2. Enter the four-digit password.

    Memory Security will automatically be turned off. The Brother machine's LCD will display the date and time.

    Note

    If you enter the wrong password, the Brother machine's LCD will display "Wrong Password" and the machine will stay offline. The Brother machine will remain in Secure Mode until you enter the correct password.





CHANGING THE PASSWORD

To change your Memory Security password, follow these steps:

  1. Press MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 8 (Security), 1 (Mem Security).

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Set Password.

  3. Press the MENU/SET key.

  4. Enter the current four-digit password.

  5. Press the MENU/SET key.

  6. Enter a new four-digit password.

  7. Press the MENU/SET key.

  8. Do one of the following:

    • If the Brother machine's LCD does not read "Verify", go to STEP 9.

    • If the Brother machine's LCD reads "Verify", follow these steps:

      1. Re-enter the new password.

      2. Press the MENU/SET key.

      3. Go to STEP 9.


  9. Press the STOP/EXIT key.
