Find the Wireless Security Information (e.g. SSID, Network key etc.) for Windows®

Description:

These steps may help you locate your wireless security settings if your computer is also connected to your network using a wireless connection.

If you are unable to find this information using the steps below, you can find the wireless network security settings on the documentation provided with your wireless access point /router. The initial setting of security information could be the manufacturer's name or the model name.

If you still cannot find the security settings, please consult the router manufacturer, your system administrator, or your internet provider.

NOTE: Illustrations shown below are from a representative product and operating system, and may differ from your Brother machine and operating system.



How to find your Wireless Security Information in Windows Vista® / Windows® 7/ Windows® 8

Brother has developed a utility "Wireless Setup Helper" to assist you in locating the security settings (e.g. SSID, Network key etc.) of your wireless network.

NOTE: Run this utility on a PC that is connected to your wireless network.




How to find your Wireless Security Information in Windows® XP

NOTE: Windows® XP will not display the network key. You will need to know this information or will need to contact the manufacturer of your wireless access point or wireless router for this network information.


  1. Open Network Connections (Click on Start, choose Run and type ncpa.cpl. Press OK.)

  2. Right click on your Wireless Network Connection and choose Properties.

  3. Choose the Wireless Networks tab.
