Before you start, please make sure that your router has been already set up. In case you have NOT set up your router, please complete the setup procedure on your router with the assistance from your network administrator or router manufacturer.
Step-1 Obtain your router information
Before starting the set up of your Brother machine, you need to find and write down some very important information related to your wireless settings of your router.
Follow the procedure below to find your SSID (Service Set Identity):
- For Windows® XP
- Click on Start.
- Click on Connect to.
- Click on Wireless Network Connection.
- Please write down the information shown on the Network line. That is your SSID.
- Click on Close.
- For Windows Vista®
- Click on Start.
- Click on Connect to.
- A window will open with the list of available networks.
- Scroll through the wireless network connections.
- Please write down the information of the network that says connected. That is your SSID.
- Close the window.
Step-2 Activate the wireless card of your Brother machine
- Press Menu.
- Scroll to Network or LAN. Press OK.
- Scroll to Network I/F. Press OK.
- Select WLAN. Press OK.
- Press Stop/Exit.
Step-3 Establish a wireless connection between your router and your Brother machine
- Press Menu.
- Scroll to LAN or Network depending on your model.
- Press OK.
- Select WLAN. Press OK.
- Scroll and select Setup Wizard. Press OK.
- Your machine will search for the SSID. There might be more than one listed. When you see the SSID you wrote down earlier scroll to it. Press OK.
- At the Auth: (Authentication) select Open System. Press OK.
- At the Encryption Type select None. Press OK.
- When asked to Apply Settings select Yes.
- After a few seconds, your machine will display Connected. Press OK.
Step-4 Print your Network settings from your Brother machine
- Press Menu.
- Scroll to Print Reports. Press OK.
- Select Network Configuration. Press OK.
- Press Start.
You will find the IP address, SSID and Communication Mode on the printed report.
Step-5 Set up the driver of your Brother machine
Insert the CD-ROM of your Brother machine into the CD-ROM drive of your PC and then follow the procedures below:
- For Windows® XP
- Select your language.
- Click on Initial Installation.
- In the Main Menu, click Install MFL Pro Suite.
- At the PaperPort™ license agreement, read it and click Yes to continue.
- At the MFL Pro license agreement, read it and click Yes to continue.
- At the MFL Pro driver installation, choose Wireless Network Connection, do not check the Custom Install box. Click Next.
- At the next screen, check the Checked and confirmed box. Click Next.
- At the Firewall detection window, check the Change Firewall port setting statement. Click Next.
- At the Online Registration window, click Next.
- At the Brother MFL-Pro Suite installation completed window, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now. Click Finish.
- For Windows Vista®
- Select your language.
- Click on Initial Installation.
- In the Main Menu, click Install MFL Pro Suite.
- At the PaperPort™ license agreement, read it and click Yes to continue.
- At the MFL pro license agreement, read it and click Yes to continue.
- At the MFL Pro driver installation, choose Wireless Network Connection, do not check the Custom Install box. Click Next.
- At the next screen, check the Checked and confirmed box. Click Next.
- At the Firewall detection window, check the Change Firewall port setting statement. Click Next.
- At the "Would you like to install this device software?" check the Always trust software from "Brother Industries, ltd". Click Install.
- At the Online Registration window, click Next.
- At the Brother MFL-Pro Suite installation completed window, select Yes , I want to restart my computer now. Click Finish.
