Replace Belt unit

Description:

Follow the procedure below to replace the belt unit.

Caution

DO NOT use cleaning materials that contain ammonia, alcohol, any type of spray, or any type of flammable substance to clean the outside or inside of the machine. Doing this may cause a fire or electrical shock.
For the details of cleaning the printer, please refer to the Routine maintenance section in User's guide provided with your Brother Printer or FAQ in the "Maintenance " section of your model on Brother Solutions Center.

Note

  • DO NOT touch the surface of the belt unit. If you touch it, it could degrade the print quality.
  • Damage caused by incorrect handling of the belt unit may void your warranty.

Hint

For the order number (Order No.) of the Belt unit, please refer to the User's guide provided with your Brother Printer or the Consumables & Options page of your model on Brother Solutions Center. To visit Consumables & Options page, click your model name link (e.g. HL-XXXX * ) on the top section and then click "Consumables & Options" link on the opened page. * XXXX stands for your model name.

  1. Turn off the printer power switch.

  2. Fully open the top cover by lifting up on the handle (1).

  3. Take out all the drum unit and toner cartridge assemblies.

    Caution

    • We recommend that you place the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a clean, flat surface with a sheet of disposable paper or cloth underneath it in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.
    • To prevent damage to the printer from static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes shown in the illustration.

    • Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, wipe or wash it off with cold water at once.
    • To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustrations.

  4. Hold the green handle of the belt unit and lift the belt unit up, then pull it out.

  5. Unpack the new belt unit and put the new belt unit in the printer.

  6. Slide the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly into the printer. Make sure that you match the toner cartridge color to the same color label on the printer. Repeat this for all the drum unit and toner cartridge assemblies.

    C- Cyan, M- magenta, Y- Yellow, K- Black

  7. Close the top cover of the printer.
    When you replace the belt unit with a new one, you need to reset the belt unit counter. Go to the Step 8 to complete the steps.

  8. Reset the belt unit counter as follows:

    1. Turn the printer power switch back on.
    2. Press + or - to choose "Machine Info.".
    3. Press OK to proceed to the next menu level, and then press + or - to choose "Reset Parts Life".
    4. Press OK, and then press + to choose "Belt Unit".
    5. Press OK two times.
