Check the following and follow the steps for your case:
- If "AMD USB Audio Driver Filter" is installed or pre-installed on your PC:
Please follow Check 1 to Check 3 below (Click here to go to Check 1 to Check 3).
If the answer is YES to all three items below and you still cannot print any documents from your PC, uninstalling AMD USB Audio Driver Filter may possibly solve the problem. Try to uninstall it or contact your PC supplier for further information.
- If "AMD USB Audio Driver Filter" is NOT installed on your PC:
Please follow Check 1 to Check 3 below (Click here to go to Check 1 to Check 3).
If the answer is YES to all the three items below and you still cannot print any documents from your PC, go to the Downloads section and download and run the Uninstall Tool or Printer Driver Uninstall Tool to uninstall the current installed driver. Then re-install the latest drivers available in the Downloads section.
If the problem still continues, please contact Brother Customer Service from the "Contact Us" section.
Note
You can check if "AMD USB Audio Driver Filter" is installed on your PC following the steps:
- Click start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs.
- If you find AMD USB Audio Driver Filter, it is installed on your PC.
Check 1: Does the Device Manager recognize the Brother machine?
Follow the steps below to check the Device Manager:
- Right click on the My Computer and select Properties.
- Open the Device Manager.
For Windows® XP Users:
Click Hardware tab and click on Device Manager.
For Windows Vista® Users:
- Click Device Manager.
- Click on CONTINUE in the User Account Control Dialog.
- Click View then Show hidden devices.
- Click + next to Printers.
- If your machine is listed as Brother MFC(DCP or FAX)-XXXX USB Printer
("XXXX" is equivalent to Brother model name), the Device Manager recognizes the Brother machine correctly.
Note
- If Printers does not appear, the Device Manager does not recognize the machine.
Please try the following:
- Connect to a different port on the PC
- Try another USB cable
- If you see a yellow ? mark with the Brother machine name, right click on the mark and select Uninstall and close the Device Manager. Disconnect the Brother machine and restart the PC. After restarting the PC, reconnect the Brother machine.
- It is recommended that the USB cable (an A/B device cable) is no longer than 2.0 metres. Verify the USB cable is NOT USB to Parallel. If so, you must replace the cable.
- If you are using a USB hub, disconnect the cable from the hub and connect it directly to the computer. Do not connect the machine to a USB port on a keyboard or a non powered USB hub.
Check2: Does the Status Monitor show the stand-by condition (green icon) of your machine?

You can run the Status Monitor by the following step:
Click Start -> All Programs ( Programs for Windows® 2000 users) -> Brother -> MFC(DCP or FAX)-XXXX, then select Status Monitor.
Note
If the Status Monitor is not located under All Programs (Programs), skip this step.
or, double-click the Status Monitor icon in the tasktray.

If the Status Monitor indicates an the error message, please refer to other faqs.
Check3: (For MFC/ DCP/ FAX users) Do all other features except PC printing work properly?
- Example: Can you scan, copy or fax etc...?
If other features do not work, please refer to other faqs.
