Title:

How can I check if Sun JavaVM (Virtual Machine) is installed on my computer? If it is, how can I check the version of Sun JavaVM?

Description:

Please follow the instructions below to check the version of Sun JavaVM (Virtual Machine) .

NOTE: The screens may differ depending on operating system being used.


For Windows®98/ Me/ 2000/ XP Users
For Windows Vista®/ Windows® 7/ Windows® 8 Users
For Macintosh Users


Note

For Windows® Users:
You can also check if Sun JavaVM is installed on your computer from "Do I have Java?" at http://java.com/



For Windows®98/ Me/ 2000/ XP Users:

  1. Windows®XP Users:
    Click Start menu and select Control Panel.
    (Depending on the Operating System you are using, the menu name and direction maybe slightly different.)

    Windows®98/ Me/ 2000 Users:
    Click Start menu and select Setting and then Control Panel.

  2. Click Add/Remove Programs (Add or Remove Programs).

  3. If Java2 Runtime Environment, Java x or Java x Update x is in the Add/Remove Programs (Add or Remove Programs), Sun JavaVM is installed. You can also check the version of it. * x stands for the version.

For Windows Vista®/ Windows® 7/ Windows® 8 Users:

  1. Windows Vista® and Windows® 7 Users:
    Click Start menu and select Control Panel.

    Windows® 8 Users:
    Open the Control Panel. (Click here to see how to open the Control Panel.)

  2. Click Programs.

  3. Click Programs and Features.

  4. If Java x or Java x Update x is in the Programs and Features, Sun JavaVM is installed. You can also check the version of it. * x stands for the version.

For Macintosh® Users:

Note

Please note that you can only use the Firmware Update Tool only through the network. (You cannnot use the tool via USB.)


 

  1. Open the Terminal.app (Macintosh HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.app) and run the terminal command "java –version".

  2. You will see the java information as below.
