Title:

Printing is possible by a user with Administrator access; however, printing is not possible by a user with Power User access. (Windows 2000/XP)

Description:

This problem may occur if the access permissions for the printer driver files are not correctly set.
Follow the procedure described below to check the access permissions for the files.

> Windows 2000
> Windows XP Professional
> Windows XP Home

Windows 2000

Log on as a user that has Administrator access.

Start up Windows Explorer, and then open the folder
C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32

In that folder, right-click
ql58nl.dll
and then display the Properties dialog box. Click the [Security] tab.

Make sure that the "Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object" check box is selected.
If this check box is cleared, select it, and then click the "Apply" button.
Click the "OK" button to close the Properties dialog box.

Perform steps 3 and 4 on the following files:
C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2\ql58nuidll
and/or
C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\ql58nuidll

Log out, and then restart the computer.

If the "Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object" check box was cleared, check that the problem is corrected with this procedure.

If the problem is not correct, check that the "Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object" check box is selected for the ql58*.* files (where "*" may be anything) in the following folders.
C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32
C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86
C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2
C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3

Windows XP Professional
1. Log on as a user that has Administrator access.
2. Open the folder
  C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32
3. In that folder, right-click
  ql58nl.dll
  and then display the Properties dialog box.
  Click the [Security] tab.
  
  *If the [Security] tab does not appear:
  From Windows Explorer, click [Tools] - [Folder Options] to display the Folder Options dialog box. Click the [View] tab, and then clear the [Use simple file sharing (Recommended)] check under [Advanced settings].
4. Click the "Advanced" button, and then, in the dialog box that appears, make sure that the "Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here." check box is selected. If this check box is cleared, select it, and then click the "Apply" button.
  
  Click the "OK" button to close the Properties dialog box.
5. Perform step 4 on the following files:
  C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2\ql58nuidll
  or
  C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\ql58nuidll
6. Log out, and then restart the computer.
  
  If the problem is not corrected, check if the "Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here." check box is selected for the ql58*.* files (where "*" may be anything) in the following folders.
  C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32
  C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86
  C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2
  C:\Windows (Windows_folder)\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3

Windows XP Home

Start up Windows in Safe Mode, and then perform the same procedure as that described for XP Professional.
(The [Security] tab does not appear in the Properties dialog box of files during normal operation.)
