If the FAX/DCP/MFC unit does not appear in the "Connect to" portion of the Chooser, please follow the directions below:

  1. Disconnect the cable from the computer and the Brother unit. Connect the 'A' end of the USB cable directly to the Macintosh® computer. Connect the 'B' end of the USB cable directly to the Brother unit.

  2. Print a test page by making a Photocopy to be sure the Brother unit works.

  3. Restart the computer. When using Mac OS® 9 or Classic, click on the Special Menu and choose Restart.

  4. Click on the Apple Menu (This menu has the picture of an Apple in upper left corner of the screen) and select Chooser.

  5. Note

When the Chooser is opened, there will be no selections. This is a normal feature of the Chooser. The computer will assume the reason that you opened the Chooser is to make a new selection.
  6. Click on the MFL Pro icon located on the left side of the Chooser screen. You may have one of the following items listed:

    HL-1200/MFL Pro
    HL-1440/50/70
    MFL Pro Color
    Brother Laser
    Brother Ink

  7. Once the Brother driver is highlighted, the exact name of your Brother unit should appear on the right side of the Chooser screen. Highlight the correct model name and close the Chooser.

  8. Note

If the name of the Brother unit does not appear on the right side of the Chooser screen, the computer does not see the Brother unit. Please be sure that the length of the USB cable does not exceed 6 feet (2 meters). You may also want to try using another cable that you know is a working cable. Once you have verified this, go back to Step #1.
  9. Click on File and Print Desktop, click Print in the Print Dialog Box.
