Please follow the steps below to solve this problem:
For Mac OS X 10.5 or later users
For Mac OS X 10.4 users
For Mac OS X 10.5 or later users
VERIFY THE BROTHER MACHINE IS POWERD ON AND THERE ARE NO ERRORS
- If the machine's display (hereinafter called LCD) is blank, then the Brother machine may not be powered on, check the machine to see if it wakes from sleep mode. If it does not, then verify that it is plugged into a working outlet and any power switches are turned to the ON position.
- Check the LCD screen for any error messages. An example would be "Paper Jam" or Ink/Toner Empty". If the LCD screen shows an error, troubleshoot to clear the issue indicated.
MAKE SURE YOUR BROTHER MACHINE IS THE DEFAULT PRINTER
If the printer driver is not set as "default printer", you can not print. Make sure your Brother machine is set as default printer. If your brother machine is not set as default printer, set it as default printer.
- Click Apple Menu and choose System preferences..., click Print & Fax or Print & Scan.
- Choose from pull down menu of "default printer".
DELETE ALL PRINTER JOBS
- Click Apple Menu and choose System preferences....
- Click Print & Fax or Print & Scan.
- Choose your printer and click "Open Print Queue...".
- Choose the print job and delete.
For Mac OS X 10.8 or later users
Choose the print job (1) and click
(2).
For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7 users
Choose the print job (1) and click Delete (2).
CHECK THE PRINTER STATUS
Choose brother machine's icon and click "Open Print Queue..." then check the printer status.
The Resume or Resume printer icon which is surrounded by red lines is displayed in printing when the printer is out of paper or the printer is turned off and on. Click Resume or Resume printer.
For Mac OS X 10.8 or later users
For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7 users
If you connect the brother printer via USB cable, the error message The printer is not connected or Offline is displayed on Print Queue when the USB cable is disconnected or the brother printer is turned off. Connect the USB cable and turn the brother machine on.
For Mac OS X 10.8 or later users
For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7 users
If the other error message is displayed on Print Queue, check if the LCD display or LED indication of your Brother machine is not showing some error. If an error is displayed, go to the Troubleshooting section and find a solution.
REGISTER THE PRINTER ICON AGAIN
- Choose your printer icon.
- Click [-] button to delete the printer icon.
- Click [+] button to register the printer icon again.
In spite of if you click [+] button, the brother machine is not displayed, then the brother machine is not recognized.
If you use the printer via USB connection, reconnect the USB cable or restart the Macintosh or your brother machine.
If you use the printer via network connection, refer to "I cannot print from my computer via network. (For Macintosh)"
Note
If you share the printer, verify you can print from the computer via USB connection (Server computer).
For Mac OS X 10.4 users
VERIFY THE BROTHER MACHINE IS POWERD ON AND THERE ARE NO ERRORS

- From the menu bar, click Go => Applications => Utilities => Print Setup Utility.
- Choose the printer and click "Make Default ".
DELETE ALL PRINTER JOBS
- Click Go and choose Applications.
- Double click Utilities.
- Double click Print Setup Utility.
- Double click your printer.
- Choose the print job (1) and click delete (2).
CHECK THE PRINTER STATUS
The Jobs Stopped icon is displayed in printing when the printer is out of paper or the printer is turned on from off. Click Start Jobs.

REGISTER THE PRINTER ICON AGAIN
- Choose the brother printer icon.
- Click Delete to delete the printer icon.
- Click Add to register the printer icon again.
In spite of if you click Add, the brother machine is not displayed, then the brother machine is not recognized.
If you use the printer via USB connection, reconnect the USB cable or restart the Macintosh or your brother machine.
If you use the printer via network connection, refer to "I cannot print from my computer via network. (For Macintosh)"

If you share the printer, verify you can print from the computer via USB connection (Server computer).
